Product quality and care information

We offer a wide variety of products crafted from various materials and featuring different colors and finishes. Each item is produced to meet rigorous UK and EU standards. However, we believe it's essential for our customers to understand some key quality and care information before finalising their purchase.

All furniture items, including tables, sideboards, consoles, and coffee tables, are susceptible to damage from spills or scratches caused by heavy use. Materials such as stone, metal, and wood are particularly vulnerable to even minor spillages, which can lead to surface corrosion or damage to the finish. To prevent such issues, we advise using placemats consistently.

    SOLID POLISHED METAL ITEMS

    Example finish

Certain products, such as those in our mali range, boast solid steel or aluminium frames meticulously forged and polished by hand. Meanwhile, other items may showcase finely machine-polished metal facades or plating.

For hand-forged solid stainless steel and aluminum furniture, the metalwork undergoes polishing to achieve a near mirror-like finish. However, this finish may appear slightly less reflective compared to a glass mirrored item and may exhibit light polishing swirls and scratches naturally. Gentle indentations are typical for items crafted from metal. Additionally, some soldering marks may be visible on joins, which is normal and essential for ensuring the solidity and safety of the furniture.

We've noticed that some customers may feel disappointed upon discovering these characteristics in hand-forged solid metal furniture pieces. Therefore, we encourage you to reach out to us before making a purchase if you have any concerns about this. Please rest assured that these features are entirely normal and do not indicate any quality or fault issues.

Similar to the casing of an expensive wristwatch or finely polished steel cutlery, after use, the polished metal may exhibit unavoidable light scratches. However, these scratches will not diminish the overall appearance of the piece in any way.

This guidance pertains to solid metal items in silver, copper, and gold colors. For the latter two, thick electroplating is applied, ensuring it remains intact even with the use of cleaning products.

    • Not suitable for outdoor use
    • Can be cleaned with a metal polishing cloth, microfibre cloth, glass cleaner, furniture polish or soapy water.

      BRUSHED METAL FINISHES

These items are either coated with an additional metal paint to produce a grain effect or finished with a rough polisher to eliminate the shine and produce a dull metallic effect.

      • Not suitable for outdoor use
      • Can be cleaned with glass cleaner, furniture polish or soapy water.

        ANTIQUED METAL FINISHES

These items undergo a process where paint is either applied or removed to simulate artificial 'rusting' or 'tarnishing'. We frequently use the term 'shabby chic' to characterize these items, which possess a lived-in, antique appearance.

        Stone, marble and concrete

Marble and other stone types are natural materials originating from sedimentary processes and transformed by metamorphism. They bring a natural, earthy feel to any environment. Variations in color and texture are typical across different pieces and even within a single slab, often featuring pits and fissures that resemble cracks, formed by the intense heat and pressure from their creation. These features do not detract from the stone’s functionality or durability but instead add to its natural beauty.

Though stone and marble are generally seen as durable, they are porous and can be damaged by liquids left on their surface for too long, even in kitchens and bathrooms. This is a natural and common issue with these materials.

        Marble damage

For daily cleaning, dust with a clean, dry cloth, use warm soapy water, or a pH-neutral all-purpose spray. (such as Pledge® pH Balanced Multisurface Cleaner).

Marble requires very gentle cleaning due to its porous nature, which makes it more prone to staining than other materials. Spills of acidic liquids like wine, coffee, lemon, or vinegar should be wiped up immediately. Never use abrasive or harsh products, acidic detergents, bleach, or abrasive materials such as steel wool or sandpaper for cleaning.

Image left: shows damage caused to a table when a strong kitchen spray was incorrectly used to clean the marble surface. Within seconds of contact, the spray removed the marble’s shine, resulting in etching.

Two types of damage can occur to all stone and marble surfaces. Marble etching (see example),This type of damage occurs when the polished surface becomes dull or matte, often due to acidic liquids like salad dressing, ketchup, wine, soda, tea, coffee, and general-purpose cleaning products reacting with the stone's calcium carbonate. The common sight of colorless but dull cup rings can result from spills of hot drinks on the surface. Re-polishing is necessary to remedy this issue. Such stains may appear darker on light marble and slightly lighter on dark marble, and they may only be visible from certain angles.

There are some polishing solutions that successfully remove these marks and can be tried on stone that has not had a shiny epoxy/lacquer covering applied and are matte in appearance. We suggest SRP Water Ring & Etch Mark Remover for matte and semi-matte stone surfaces - we have tested this solution on our own marble items and have found that it successfully removes etching (such as cup rings and splashes) caused by liquid and food spillages. Be sure to follow the polishing instructions on the side of the jar precisely and use a lintfree or microfibre cloth. Staining

Staining can occur when colored liquids, such as sauces, are left on the surface of marble and are absorbed, causing discoloration. These stains can be removed with certain cleaners, but the tabletop will need to be re-polished, as the polishing sealant is also removed (etched) during the cleaning process.

We strongly recommend using placemats and coasters when placing food or drinks on stone tables. Similar to wood furniture, the top layer of polish offers some protection, but prolonged exposure will damage the material underneath.

Marble is particularly brittle, so if an item is dropped on it, the surface may chip and worsen over time, similar to how a pothole forms on a road. Marble will not develop such faults unless impacted.

No stone or marble item is suitable for outdoor use unless specified.

        Concrete care

Household or dining stains on concrete can be removed or diminished using a cleaner such as Lithofin POW05 MN Power-Clean. Be sure to follow the provided instructions for application. We recommend re-sealing concrete tabletops 2-3 times a year with a stone sealant. Cheng Concrete Sealer is a good option, though Lithofin’s Fleckstop W is also highly recommended by specialists and is a bit more affordable.

Just as oil is applied to wood surfaces to keep them vibrant and prevent liquid stains, stone surfaces should be treated with a sealant every six months. We suggest looking for Fila Fob Xtreme or Fila MP90 Eco Xtreme online. However, ensure the product is suitable for your specific item and always test it on a small, inconspicuous area first. Wood and leather

Products made from natural materials like wood and leather have unique features such as knots, grain variations, minor color differences, and repaired scars. These are not considered faults but rather marks of a truly natural and unique product.

Leather, being a natural material, will have its own distinct characteristics and natural marks. Variations in grain, texture, and color are to be expected from one hide to another, and even within the same hide. While we select the highest quality hides, some markings are inevitable and should be seen as part of the leather's individual character. Over time, creases and scratches will develop with use, enhancing the look of a well-aged leather finish.

Woods like cherrywood, maple, and oak will deepen in color when exposed to light and air. This change is most noticeable in cherrywood, which will mellow to a rich copper tone. Objects placed on these surfaces may leave lighter 'shadows' when moved, but these will eventually darken and blend in with exposure to daylight.

        Tolerance Disclaimer

Please note that all product dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly due to the natural properties of materials and the manufacturing process. A tolerance of 2-4cm is standard in the furniture industry, especially for items made from raw materials like marble or wood. These small variations are normal and should be expected.

        Velvet

Velvet upholstery can sometimes show pressure marks due to prolonged storage in confined spaces like boxes. These marks appear when pressure compresses the velvet fibers, causing the area to look lighter or darker, sometimes resembling a stain or defect, though it is not.

This issue can be easily resolved by introducing humidity to relax the fibers. We suggest using a steamer or clothes iron to apply steam to the affected area, ensuring the fabric does not become too wet or hot. After steaming, gently brush the fabric with a clean, soft brush to restore its texture.

        Lighting

All our lights comply with EU and UK standards and include detailed fitting and safety instructions. Please be aware that unless specified otherwise, our lights should not be used with a dimmer switch, as doing so could cause damage, pose a safety hazard, and void all warranties.

        Home scents

We offer a variety of delightful home diffuser scents. Here are some important considerations to keep in mind:

        - The longevity of these diffusers depends on factors such as heat, light, room size, and ventilation. Using air dehumidifiers and air conditioning units can significantly reduce their lifespan. To balance the scent's potency and longevity, we recommend turning the reeds once a week.
        - The rate of oil evaporation slows as the amount in the bottle decreases. Initially, you may notice rapid evaporation because the oil is higher in the bottle and closer to the opening. However, evaporation slows significantly once the oil level drops and the reeds are the primary means of dispersal.
        - The liquid is oil-based and may damage wooden and upholstered surfaces if spilled. Be cautious when turning the reeds to avoid spills, and immediately clean any spills with warm, soapy water.
        - We cannot accept returns of these consumable items unless they are unused, unopened, and all packaging and seals are intact.
